April 22 I met a kind ladyThis morning I was on the way to train station under downpour, almost got all wet just right after 2-minute walk from where I live. I imagined what I will turn out when I get to office?...... I brought back my spare skirt at office last week, that means I will have no alternative of being in wet clothes at office and have to let my pants dry up by my body temperature. God damn it! Why don't I have a car to drive work? :-(...... As I was in freaking out walking in the heavy rain, suddenly stopped by a car, the female driver invited me to get on the car and give me a lift to train station. She speaks Mandarin. Ooooooh! The lady is the one that I alway meet at train station in the morning, we take the same train but I thought she is a Hong Kong woman, actually she speaks Mandarin with Shang Hai accent. In the car, I didn't ask her too much about herself just said hello and thanked her very much. I guess maybe she was also curious about who I am before, a Chinese-look girl, where come from?......Do you have some commuters on the same train or bus you take every morning? I am pretty sure you do. Have you come across a lady or guy like this woman? You have or you will, I believe.
Gal Pal's Birthday PartySat night, good gal pal's birthday party, at Cargo Bar in Darling Harbour. We had drink and meal as planned, and ended with birthday cake. You can imagine how bubbling we were, likewise, very high around us and beautiful night piece can't be ignored. But there are not too much pictures could be shown that crazy scene, just grab some of photos shot for sharing. Unfortunately, its pretty hard to find a good view to take at where I sit, then kind of blamed my outdated camera and photograpg technique:-(
April 17 A good article--from a friendWhen We were called Sick man of Asia, We were called The Peril. When We are billed to be the next Superpower, We are called The threat. When We were closed our doors, You smuggled Drugs to Open Markets. When We Embrace Freed Trade, You blame us for Taking away your jobs. When We were falling apart, You marched in your troops and wanted your fair share. When We were putting the broken peices together again, Free Tibet you screamed, it was an invasion! ( When Woodrow Wilson Couldnt give back Birth Place of Confucius back to Us, But He did bought a ticket for the Famine Relief Ball for us.) So, We Tried Communism, You hated us for being Communists. When We embrace Capitalism, You hate us for being Capitalist. When We have a Billion People, you said we were destroying the planet. When We are tried limited our numbers, you said It was human rights abuse. What a galling day!I really got grumpy yesterday and considered it was the worst day in the current company. The workload was not as heavy as I did, the problem was I had to face up one by one of issue. To sum up, I deal with 3 headaches within a day.
The first one, there are 6 containers has been in storage yard for decades, we have got billed $1215 per day, and the charge is going up and up. The shocking number has got the manager in fluster. So I was pushed to get them back by this week. It is not a piece of cake, it needs enough space to take those six 40' containers, it is not a tiny thing. I got busted as I rang up to WHS, they complained that I was not aware of it when they kept telling me their plan to move containers back last week. My lord, I was so undeserved, it was not my fault, the instruction was from sales and product manager, definitely I had no right to make that decision.:-)))) Alright, I could swallow bitterness and endure misunderstanding from WHS. What I had to do was trying to reschedule previous delivery schedule and swap some containers with those 6 urgent containers so that we won't be charged next week any longer. Of course, I figured out.
The second thing I faced was IT timeless issue of our bloody system. I used to run MIT report which we could review the cost variance between our PO and HQ's invoice so we could make adjustment accordingly. However, we couldn't get this report with correct data since March. Then last week I asked IT to investigate however couldn't identify the root cause yet. Yesterday I had to spent 2 hours to sit with IT manager and specialist together and explain how it is important to update discrepancy, otherwise we would be charged incorrectly, trying to help them rule out the possible reasons cause the problem although I am not an IT expert. Unfortunately, they insisted in nothing wrong in IT side and won't want to look into further on this subject and fix it. Shit! I came to see my manager to get higher-level support. The problem is still in pendent. BTW, through a day's communication, I was happy that I am becoming more confident in understanding Indian English because two IT colleagues are both Indian guys. LOL!
The third problem was also related to money. :-) Last Friday I issued a cash-on-sale and shipped out to Singapore. Due to rush, my manager pushed me to output the goods by COB yesterday after just received purchase order in the morning. It normally takes at least two working days to finish because the general process would go through several sectors including credit team, financial team, order desk, WHS and freight forwarder FedEx, but I must become impossibility into truth. That was more than $40,000!!!!! Nobody would hate money. No doubt, I made it before 5:00PM! receiving the copy of telex transfer, shipping out the goods, gaining customer’s satisfaction. This morning the money went into our bank account. However, I was grabbed the tail by credit team and financial team, they complained that I did something wrong and disobeyed the company accounting rule. Actually, I got approval by my manager as I did, the point was that we sold out the products and customer was happy with our efficiency. That problem belongs to internal company. Why those finance people can't prioritize the procedure and catch the key point in biz. Maybe I think from my view, not from their point of view. April 09 Crowded TrainSydney railway has never been better in Sydneysiders’ eyes, delayed, cancelled... The train I took this morning got mechanical problem, so all of passengers were sent out of the carriages to wait for the next train coming. I tried my best to squeeze in the subsequent train which was overcrowded already. Surprisedly at the next stop, there were a lot of commuters standing there, seemed they were evicted from the previous train. My goodness, the train had to take almost 3-train passengers. Unbelievable! Like sardine can. Feel very compassionate looking at those people with no alternative at the platform. A female passenger sitting on the train said to them,’ Good luck! Have a good day.' other lucky passengers on the train sympathetically beamed on. April 08 Bloody EnglishMy gal pal will probably have to change her position from sales to customer service. I have seen such kind of thing happen wherever in China or Australia bosses or managers flick you off as long as they think you are not suitable for the position, the reason could be your low performance, bad customer’s feedback etc. though you have already tried your best even working overtime every single day. In terms of boss' principle, they pay for you, so you need to achieve their goal under their defined effectiveness and efficiency. I absolutely can understand it, but the cruelty is hard to be accepted in mind. I know a bunch of my friends have got demotion or fired in Australia mainly due to language barrier. As far as I have known, many Chinese who came to Australia in or after their 20s, they have got good education and fantastic experience in a big foreign company in China, but they cannot be able to speak English as fluently and correctly as English-native speaker normally most of them need a translating process from Chinese to English as they speak English. Of course, I am not excluded. It is pretty ordinary not to fully understand blokes with strong Aussie accent. Their slangs used are fresh to us, their expression ways are totally different to us, and their speaking speed is so fast that we couldn't catch it. We could misunderstand or get in hodgepodge by what they said. So what! They are not bilingual.
April 01 Need to learn first aidIn the morning when I was reading magazine holding the pole on the train, suddenly got a punch on my arm by someone immediately I found the next girl fell down the ground with face-up, her eyes closed off. I was at loss, didn't know what I could do at the moment only had commonsense that I would better not to move her a little. At that time, a guy (I just called him A) came over and crouches down and tried to speak to that girl until her eyes opened. Meanwhile he pressed the emergency button beside the door to inform the staff on the train what happened in our carriage. After a while, the lady looked alright and stood up, another guy (B) had her take his seat, the guy A took out a bottle of water from his bag and advised the girl to have a little drink. At the next stop, the female train staff run to our carriage and asked how the girl was feeling and whether needed any first aid or ambulance at the next stop Central Station where is the biggest station in Sydney. The girl said that she didn't need special care then our train started and headed to Central. I never saw a real person fall in a faint in front of me although I heard of this situation several times. Should I learn how to do first aid….. Headache, headache, headacheThis morning I have been jaded and exhausted. Why? Headache again! I have been plagued with headache for 25 years, last night I suffered the hardest time and felt being dead. The blood hit the blood vessel wall to nearly burst out, my temple beat intensively, it was the first time that I had such strong headache, then I had to have two tablets of pain killer but consequently I threw out twice and got diarrheal. I remember, my mum used to prick the middle of my forehead with a needle to release blood as the pain killer didn't work. Sounds horrible, huh? But that was the most effective way for me. Last night I advised Phil to do that, but he was scared to do by that way. If my mum was here, she would help me for sure. My mum is my mum. :-) How the headache come from? I don't think it was due to 5-hour shopping while I accompanied a friend couple who just came to Australia for activating their PR visa from China, actually I was very excited after bought the cosmetic L'occitane HONEY FACE MASK and TONER that recommended by a string of my girlfriends and I applied them right now last night. I didn't feel tired a bit looking at those harvest. So headache is headache, I can’t block it off no matter how I am happy. L
